Dr. Camellia Moses Okpodu is a establish biochemist with more than xx-five years of feel in higher instruction. She graduated from North Carolina State University where she received her B.S. caste in biochemistry in 1987, and her Ph.D. caste in plant physiology and biochemistry in 1994. Upon graduation, Okpodu was awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship in plant molecular biological science at the Virginia Institute of Applied science.
She is currently Professor of Biological science and Dean of Arts and Sciences at Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA), New Orleans, LA. She was Professor (2003-2018) and former Chair of Biological science (2003–2008) at Norfolk State Academy (NSU) and the 2007–2008 American Council on Education Beau. She was the 2nd director of the DIA-designated Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence at Norfolk Country University.
In 2006, Dr. Okpodu began her inquiry on agreement how both flora and brute react to changes in the surroundings. In 2015, she received a DHS grant to work with ODU on a multi-disciplinary and cross-institutional project to examine the upshot that declension flooding has on resilience, peculiarly in under-resourced communities.
In 2019, Dr. Okpodu was named the State of Louisiana's Endowed Professor of Science. This endowed position allows her to continue her research on understanding littoral perspectives in the Great New Orleans area. She has iv undergraduate students working on this project. She was recently awarded a NSF award for GeoPathways. Dr. Okpodu will employ this funding to help Xavier students from across the College of Arts and Sciences consider geosciences as a viable career.
She is a member of Sigma Xi, Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society, the American Society of Establish Biology and the Ecological Society of America. Her academic and professional awards include report honor at Oxford University, Gordon Enquiry Conference Travel Award, the Intelligence Community Kinesthesia Scholar Accolade, and both the Accolade of Recognition and the Special Recognition of Merit Award from the Part of the Manager of National Intelligence. In 2013, she was inducted into the HistoryMakers as a ScienceMaker. Historic by endless awards and distinctions, Dr. Okpodu was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1999. The New York Times Selective Guide to Colleges observes, "Xavier is a school where achievement has been the dominion and beating the odds confronting success a routine occurrence." Xavier prepares its students to engage in a vigorous liberal arts curriculum, focusing on critical thinking, ethics, and career preparation to usher in their success in life and work. As the Dean of the Higher of Arts and Sciences at Xavier Academy, Dr. Okpodu continues to shape the vision of the College and sincerely understands the importance of producing graduates that are simply and humane. She continues to piece of work to prepare students for America's Global Geo-Marketplace.
